It’s Jennifer Laura Thompson’s last day in @dearevanhansen on broadway and I’d like to say that watching this woman’s performance hundreds of times (literally) taught me more about what it means to be a grounded, honest, vulnerable, simple, strong actor then I could have ever anticipated. The performance she gives night after night is simply perfection, and all that while being one of my favorite people in this whole wide world. Happy trails, beautiful friend.
missing the best state in the country a lil extra today 💧 💧
A year ago today I had my first show as Evan Hansen with the broadway company of Dear Evan Hansen. I knew even then that my personal connection to the role lay in the impossible statistics of LGBTQIA+ youth suicide numbers. The disproportions are staggering between straight cis kids and kids who openly identify as LGBT+. To this day, every show I’ve done over the past year as Evan has been for that group of people. Even though Evan isn’t written as queer, my shows are always to do justice for the queer kids that are suffering, or whose lives have been lost.
