The idea is that challenges shape and form us. That they bring out either the best or worst in us, depending on our character. We know that boiling water can soften pasta, harden an egg and bring out the wonderful taste that lies inside a coffee bean. Is it the charachter of the subject that determines the result or the forces that do their work on them? We're often quick to point to fire as the cause for bringing out something's essence, after all, without it the bean would have been only a small brown pebble. But what if there's more to the story? If we were to assume that, as is outlined in hindu traditions, all things that change are not real, then where does that leave us and our challenges? In other words, if situations and things that happen in our mind have no relationship to who we really are, how can they seem to influence us? And how can we even use them to our advantage? 🌾About Loss & Grief 🌾 ‘You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn how to surf’ (Jon Kabat-Zinn). . Last week I realized I am going through a process of mourning and grief. When we think of loss and grief we most often think about death and losing a loved one. But loss & grief can come in many other forms. Life constantly changes, making waves for us to deal with. And we need to learn how to ride them. . Life is ever changing and as we grow and change we may end up saying goodbye, and letting go of many things. . Particularly around the time of early motherhood. . - You may not have had the pregnancy or birth you had hoped for, and notice you are mourning over the loss of the image, how you thought it would be and the experience you got. . - Maybe your body has changed in ways that you feel sad, about the loss of what it used to be like. . - Or maybe you are sad and longing for the space and freedom you had before you had a baby . - And of course also real loss like miscarriage. . I’m all for positive thinking, gratitude and good feelings. But I fully believe in acknowledging what is there. And accepting what we feel. . So if there is sadness about a loss, to let yourself feel it. Acknowledge the loss, the thoughts that come with it, the emotions. . Let it run THROUGH you. Make SPACE for it. . As you do this, with some time, you can also LET GO of the sadness and process it. There is no need to judge yourself for having a reaction to loss/ change. . You are human. You feel things. It’s the denying, the shame and judging that makes us suffer more than our true feelings themselves. . After the acknowledgment, after the letting go, THEN there is space for seeing what positive outcome there is for your situation of loss. . Then you can be open to gratitude. . Love this..so true!! ..we must take notice of our health beyond just physical aspects.There are so many other factors that contribute to our #Repost @holisticallygrace • • • • • • 👆You cannot tell if someone is “healthy” just by looking at them . We live in a culture that overemphasizes physical health, or looking healthy. Everyday we are bombarded with messages on the way our bodies “should” look, the kale we need to be eating, and the calories we need to be burning. 🤦‍♀️ On the other hand, we stigmatize conversations about mental/emotional health and ignore the role stress, relationships, and our environment play on our wellbeing. Completely missing what’s below the surface. . So, I refuse to accept diet culture’s definition of “healthy”. A definition which emphasizes a thin ideal and condemns larger bodies. A definition which focuses on the superficial, the symptoms, rather than the root cause. A definition that causes more problems than solutions and is detrimental to the health of our society. 🤷🏼‍♀️ My definition of health, you probably know it by now...holistic! Diet and exercise are great, don’t get me wrong, but it’s just one part of the puzzle. Çocuklar bizim söylediklerimizi her zaman yapmayabilirler; ancak bizi her an gözlemlerler ve yaptıklarımızı yaparlar. Bizler en küçük yaşlarda çocukların tüm dünyası ve en çok örnek aldıkları kişileriz. Bizim cesur olduğumuzu, hatalarımızı kabul ettiğimizi, kendimizle ve hayatla ilgili pozitif dilde konuştuğumuzu, mükemmel olmaya çalışmadan kendimizle ve hayatla barışık olduğumuzu görmeye ihtiyaçları var. 2 gün önce yaptığım paylaşımda çocuklara ve eşimize karşı ilgili olmaktan bahsetmiştim. Gerçek şu ki; kendimize karşı ilgili olmadan, kendimizi sevmeden ne çocuğumuza ne de eşimize karşı ilgili, sevgi dolu ve şefkatli olamayız. Kendimi de tabii ki seviyorum diyebilirsiniz. Ama kendinizi sevmek sizin için ne anlama geliyor? Genelde konu kendimiz olunca en acımasız eleştirileri, yorumları, suçlamaları yapıyoruz. Öncelikle bunu fark etmek, üzerinde düşünmek ve gerçekten çalışmak gerekiyor. Herkese gösterdiğimiz hoşgörü ve kabulü kendimize niçin gösteremiyoruz? Ben kendi üzerimde çalıştıkça öğrendim ki; kendini sevmek demek; özsaygı demek, kendini kabul etmek demek, zihinsel, duygusal ve fiziksel olarak kendine bakmak demek. Kendine zaman yaratmak demek. Kendini tanımaya ve keşfetmeye çalışmak, özümüzle barışık olmak, değişime ve gelişime her zaman açık olmak demek. Bazı şeyleri istediğimiz kadar mükemmel yapamadığımızda, ya da hatalar yaptığımızda kendimizi hoş görmek, affetmek, yola devam etmek demek. Kendimizin en iyi dostu olmak, aynaya baktığımızda güçlü ve sevgi dolu hissetmek demek. Öz sevgi ve öz şefkatle sarmalandığımızda; hem çoçuğumuza hem de eşimize karşı kabulümüz artar mı? Yani biz daha mutlu olduğumuzda çevremizi de daha mutlu eder miyiz?
