Saving the universe requires Super Hero powers, but you don’t need some fancy super serum concocted in the lab by Howard Stark to make this happen. You just need to lock down your eating and training. And it starts with hitting your calories: ⠀ For fat loss, take your bodyweight in pounds x 10-12 as a nice starting place⠀ ⠀ For muscle gain, take your bodyweight in pounds x 15-16⠀ ⠀ Then hit your protein at 0.82-1.0 grams per pound of bodyweight (you can even go a tad higher to 1.2 grams if you're into that sort of thing).⠀ Once calories are in check, let’s focus on that super hero strength: No need to pick up a truck for your workouts, but you should be picking up heavy things a few times per week. Thai Salad Wraps Ingredients: ●  2 tbsp. unsalted butter ●  1 lb. turkey (I used turkey) or grass-fed lean ground beef ●  1 yellow onion, chopped ●  2 garlic cloves, minced ●  1 bell pepper, seeded and chopped ●  1 C. carrot, peeled and chopped ●  ½ C. yellow squash, chopped ●  ½ C. zucchini, chopped ●  2 tbsp. low-sodium soy sauce ●  ½ tsp. curry powder ●  Freshly ground black pepper, to taste ●  12 lettuce leaves ●  1½ C. Parmesan cheese, shredded - - - Instructions: 1) In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and cook the beef for about 8-10 minutes, breaking the lumps. 2) Stir in the vegetables and cook for about 4-5 minutes. 3) Stir in the soy sauce, curry powder and black pepper and cook for about 4-5 minutes. 4) Remove from the heat and set aside to cool slightly. 5) Arrange lettuce leaves onto serving plates and top each with beef mixture evenly. Rewarding myself with carbs after my recent running re-initiation. Sicilian inspired pasta with eggplant, tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic, canned tuna, a squirt of lemon juice, some briney olives and pepper flakes and salt. Creaminess comes from the pasta water. BAKED COCONUT SHRIMP 🍤❤️😋 INGREDIENTS: 2 eggs 1 cup dried unsweetened coconut flakes 2 T. Nutritional yeast 1 cup rice flour, divided 4 T. cornstarch, divided Sea salt Freshly ground black pepper 16 large shrimp, peeled and deveined 1 T. oil (grapeseed, olive, or coconut oil) - - - INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Preheat the oven to 450°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 2. In a small bowl, whisk the eggs. Set aside. 3. In another small bowl, combine the coconut flakes, nutritional yeast, ½ cup of rice flour, 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, salt, and pepper. Set aside. 4. In a third small bowl, combine the remaining ½ cup of rice flour and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. 5. One at a time, coat each shrimp in the flour-cornstarch mixture, dip it in the egg wash, then coat it in the coconut mixture. Place each shrimp on the baking sheet. 6. Drizzle the shrimp with the oil and bake for 5 minutes. Flip the shrimp over and bake for 4 to 5 minutes more, or until cooked through. - - - INGREDIENT TIP: Nutritional yeast is a deactivated yeast that has a nutty cheese-like flavor and is high in vitamin B. Gamer heaven.⠀ ⠀ “But won't those carbs go straight to my hips??? Dr. Oz said something about carbs at night and too many carbs and sugar and wahhhhhhh.” ⠀ No, Karen. Settle down.⠀ ⠀ Repeat after me ... say it loud for the cheap seats in the back: Carbs do not make you fat. The ONLY thing that makes you fat is eating too much.⠀ ⠀ Whether that's too much bacon ... too much chicken ... or too much pasta. It doesn't matter.⠀ ⠀ Get into a calorie deficit (eat fewer calories than you burn). Get your adequate protein (0.82 grams per pound of Bodyweight at minimum). Then go crazy on some carbs.⠀ ⠀ Whatever your carb of choice may be, enjoy it. And as long as you are following the first rule of fat loss, you are golden.⠀ ⠀ Gimme all the pasta and bread and rice. And stuff my plate with all of 'em at 8:00, 9:00 or even (shock, horror) 10:00pm.⠀ ⠀ Just relax, my young Padawan. Know that if you are in a caloric deficit, you are losing fat ... whether that means eating all of your carbs at lunch or waiting until dessert to devour your starches.⠀ ⠀ Carbs fuel workouts. Or try using some different nuts like pecans or walnuts, or even Dried coconut! 😍 I prefer my granola simple, crunchy, not too sweet & I like tasting the oats….I’m not a huge fan of dried fruit in it either but I do like a little bit of cranberries! 😃 Recipe below... I love granola in my yogurt!! This is a perfect blend of crunchy with a hint of honey, cinnamon & just enough #ihopeyoulike #deliciousness Ingredients: •3 cups Rolled oats •1/2 cup Honey, raw •1 tbsp Cinnamon •1 tsp Vanilla extract •2 tsp Coconut oil •1 cup Almonds, raw (chopped) •½ cup dried cranberries INSTRUCTIONS: Preheat oven to 350* Mix dry ingredients in a glass baking dish and toast them in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. While the oats are toasting, combine the wet ingredients. After the oats are toasted (they should be very aromatic), drizzle the honey mixture over the oats. Stir until well combined. On a baking sheet lined with wax paper form a single layer of the oat mixture. Place the baking sheet back in the oven and turn the oven OFF. this will allow the granola to finish toasting without burning. Let it sit in the oven for 5-8 minutes. CARBS AT NIGHT by @bhamilton32⠀ —⠀ So many are quick to demonize carbs in the first place, but many believe that carbs AT NIGHT is the ultimate sin. In reality, it is quite the opposite. Carbohydrates are ideally consumed at night and around a workout. ⠀ —⠀ It was hypothesized that carbs at night turn directly into fat because it is “wasted energy”. We aren’t moving when we sleep, so how are we burning off the extra energy? We are actually burning consistently, and the carbs provide out body the fuel to ignite the fire of rebuilding while we sleep! ⠀ —⠀ Those same carb zealots believe that carbs are the cause of obesity and must be completely eliminated from our daily nutrition. Unfortunately for them, carbohydrates are the body’s preferred source of fuel for multiple functions. Carbohydrates aid in quality of sleep and with getting stronger. ⠀ —⠀ This is not to say that any and all the carbs are going to be beneficial. Delicious Chickpea Avocado Salad – This was a huge hit!! 😍😋 I would have added tomatoes if I had some but we ran out…Oh well, this was still amazing! 🙌🏼 - - Ingredients: 3 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil 3 Tbsp lemon juice from 1 large lemon 1 garlic clove pressed or minced 1/2 tsp sea salt or to taste 1/8 tsp black pepper 1 1/2 cups cherry tomatoes halved 1 English Cucumber halved and sliced 15 oz chickpeas or garbanzo beans, drained, rinsed 1/2 cup medium red onion thinly sliced 1 avocado sliced 1/4 cup cilantro chopped 4 oz feta cheese diced Instructions: Combine the dressing ingredients in a small bowl: 3 Tbsp olive oil, 3 Tbsp lemon juice, 1 pressed garlic clove, 1/2 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp pepper and whisk to combine (or shake them together in a small mason jar). Carbs as soooooo bad". - Yeah, I'm sure you did lose weight. - Was it from eliminating the bread and pasta? - Absolutely not. - If it wasnt because of not eating bread and pasta then what caused the weight loss? - Simple answer.....you ate less food. - No specific food is going to cause you to gain or lose weight. - Carbs do not make you fat. - Overeating consistently over time is what makes you gain weight. - I've had clients come to me who have said they tried low carb or zero carb diets in the past. NEWS FLASH... carbs and fats are MAJOR nutrients your body needs to function optimally... no wonder we’re moody, our hormones are cray, we’re resisting insulin, tired, and FRUSTRATED 🤦🏼‍♀️ not to mention that with all this “EAT LESS” Chat.. #obesity is at an all time high 😱 we haven’t been getting the MACRO nutrients we need to THRIVE. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Carb Cycling just means that on some days you’ll eat a surplus of carbs (to promote lean calorie burning muscle) and other days you’ll eat less carbs and more fat — get this — TO BURN FAT!!! Breakfast Pasta happens when you have a dream about swimming in a warm sea of buttery spaghetti. Last night I tested the Bon Apetit pasta sauce technique with only butter, grana padano and pasta water. Making an emulsion with the fat and starchy water before adding the cheese worked quite well, no clumps! Glossy perfectly coated spaghetti the reward. I also blanched and sautéed some broccoli rabe with garlic and some peperocino. Why shouldn’t I eat the leftovers for breakfast? Added a fried egg to justify the carb load at 8am. I want a crisp glass of Soave but I’m brewing some Bustelo instead. Don’t judge me till you’ve had breakfast pasta, it’s glorious.
