True story: I bake almost every day. (Shameless plug for my baking IG: @jessicatakesthecake) Sometimes, massive bakes in one day. How can I bake all of this stuff and not eat it all? The tl;dr: When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. Well first off, I wasn't always that way. I would literally bake something and then eat most of it usually within a few hours. As if I could not make more or drive to the store or get more sugary cake things at another time. As if the sugary, cakey thing would never exist again. This type of mental scarcity was not only making me feel restricted, ultimately it was making it nearly impossible not to binge eat. Thankfully, over time, I've been able to shift my mindset to thinking that I don't have to eat this very thing right now if it's not in line with my current goals. There's always more later. And if you really, really want to eat thing, just have a bit and move on....because there's always more later. When you see thing as both available/abundant and give yourself permission to eat them when you actually want them, you eventually get to the point where you don't overeat. Which diet best describes you👇🏼 ⠀ IIFYM is a diet based on the idea that as long as what you eat “fits your macros” (protein, carbs & fats) it’s okay to eat it. While from a scientific standpoint this method is supported in that once energy balance is established (when kcals in = kcals out) you’ll maintain your weight (Howell & Kones 2017, Hill et al 2012, Romieu et al 2017) it doesn’t then mean that IIFYM is a free pass to eat junk all day to simply “hit your macros” ⠀ IIFYM is NOT a diet you can use to help justify not including any micro rich foods into your diet. Though micros may not play a role in getting you that 6pack (actually, they sort of do) they are ESSENTIAL for overall HEALTH & prevention of DISEASE (Shenkin 2006) which is far more important than some abs. People hear IIFYM & assume someone with a calculator trying to fit every last kcal they have with Poptarts&whey however that’s anything but the case ⠀ IIFYM is no different to any other diet.  It should be a diet with healthy, micro dense foods as its FOUNDATION (80%+) however where IIFYM differs from other diets is that you have A) The OPTION to vary your intake of what healthy foods you eat as much as you want & B) You ALSO have the OPTION to include the odd treat. This is why it’s so successful as a long term diet as, unlike 100% rigid dieting strategies which have you eliminate foods/food groups, having that added OPTION eliminates the irrational obsession that come from only being ABLE to eat healthy foods along with eliminating the development of binge like eating behaviours (Stewart et al 2002). Tout simplement parce qu’on se sent plus reposé après un long temps de repos et que pendant l’effort c’est bizarre de se « reposer »😴 . On vous l’accorde, et on pensait pareil pendant tout un temps. I get asked regularly, “Oli I’m not sure what to eat, my daily target is 1,500 calories?” Here’s a great example of 3 wholesome nutritious meals and a snack.  140g of protein 👌 Chicken Meal = 399 Calories Beef Bolognese = 622 Salmon Meal = 327 2x Boiled Eggs = 140 I believe in 80\20 rule. It’s around 1500kcal, 90g protein and reasonable amount of green (additional veg not shown 😂🙄) ⠀ ⠀ Yet often when I meet new weight loss clients this is more or less what they tend to tell me they’re eating each day without any weight loss results. ⠀ ⠀ If you’re currently doing this and not losing weight, it’s probably worth looking at the other aspects of your diet outside of this. Like the ‘infrequent’ takeaways, biscuits, fancy coffees, family dinners, restaurants, cinema snacks and booze. ⠀ ⠀ The answer is invariably in one of these areas rather than in swapping which salad you get at ITSU or whether your uncle bens rice is white or brown. 🙏🏻 ⠀ ⠀ *if you’re a petite sedentary woman, you may need to look at increasing activity level before this would be an appropriate intake for weight loss. #petitesedentarywomenproblems
