See his caption below: .......................................... #Repost @petersoonfit with @get_repost ・・・ If you don't know, I was being sarcastic. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yes, it's nice to have a little soreness from the gym but is it necessary to build muscle? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In a word - NO! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you're extremely sore all the time it either means you're just overdoing it, not recovering properly or doing different random workouts every time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Random workouts are not the way to train in case you were wondering. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Soreness is a sign that you've done something that your body isn't used to and is caused by the lengthening of the muscle (eccentric) under load. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For example, that would be when you lower your chest to the floor in a push-up. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After a while, the soreness isn't as great even though you're pushing more weights or reps for any given exercise due to your body adapting and there's a protective effect against muscle damage aka the "repeated bout effect". ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You'll notice that certain muscles rarely become sore for you and due to this you may train them extra hard in hopes of eliciting extreme soreness. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Don't! Just don't! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Just because it doesn't get sore it doesn't mean you didn't work them hard enough. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Train consistently and sensibly with progressive overload and trust in the process because this shit takes time.

Summary from my talk to the crew from @bsb_bloodsweatandbeers last night about nutrition for endurance performance 👇 . Pre-training/race you want to focus on high carb, low-fibre, low-fat foods that are easy to digest to fuel performance. Most people perform best after a meal 2-3hrs before (e.g. pasta/rice based dish) and a snack (e.g. muesli bar or piece of fruit) an hour before. This is individual though and some trial and error is needed ✅ . Fuel for the work required. If you have a high workload one day and a rest day or low volume session the next day, I'd recommend consuming more carbs on the high volume day. I also touched on the concept of train high and sleep low which is worth looking into for those who want to optimise performance ✅ . When carb loading for a marathon, you can almost completely saturate your muscles with glycogen with a 2-3 day protocol. Males typical benefit from 7-10g/kg carbohydrate per day and females 5-8g/kg. To achieve these numbers you likely need to focus on easily digestible sources and limit fat and fibre intake to a certain degree as well ✅ . During a race it is ideal to take on 30-90g carbs per hour with a ratio of 2:1 glucose to fructose. Combining this with carb loading delays "hitting the wall" when glycogen runs out. INGREDIENTS 4 large chicken breasts 1 tbsp lemon zest salt & pepper 12 asparagus stalks, trimmed 3 slices mozzarella cheese 1 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp paprika 1 tbsp olive oil . INSTRUCTIONS Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Cut the chicken breast in half, length-wise. do not cut all the way though. You need to create a pocket into each chicken breast. Season the inside of the chicken breast w/ lemon zest, salt & pepper. Place chicken on work surface & lay the mozzarella cheese & 3 asparagus inside of each chicken breast & fold over, enclosing the filling. In a small bowl mix together salt, pepper garlic powder & paprika. Then season the outside of the chicken breast w/ this spice mixture. Heat a large & oven safe skillet over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil. Sear the chicken for 3 to 5 minutes each side & until the chicken is golden brown on top. Place the chicken in the oven. Bake for 20 minutes. Make sure the chicken reaches the internal temperature of 165 degrees. . Most people refer to them as "good" & "bad" and are applauded when spoken about in regards to particular diets (keto..). When heavily relied upon as the primary macronutrient in a diet such as the keto diet, people seem to lose understanding of the difference between the two types of fats and readily overindulge in saturated fats (I'm looking at you "bulletproof" coffee & bacon breakfast). ⁠ What are we referring to when we talk about good & bad fats or saturated/unsaturated fats?⁠ ⁠ ⁠ Fats are a macronutrient that belong to the lipid family (there are other members of the lipid family I am not discussing today) that can be saturated or unsaturated. This is referring to their chemical structure and whether the carbon chain has one or more points of unsaturation or is completely saturated. ⁠ ⁠ Most foods contain a mixture of fatty acids but may have predominantly saturated or unsaturated as pictured. ⁠ ⁠ Unsaturated Fats include monounsaturated fats, and the essential fatty acids; Omega-6 Polyunsaturated & Omega-3 Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). Unsaturated fats have been linked to lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease and reducing LDL cholesterol. The omega 3- PUFA may assist in lowering blood pressure, improving blood lipids & supporting a healthy immune system. ⁠ ⁠ Saturated fats are predominantly from animal products and highly processed foods that carry few essential nutrients. High intake of mostly saturated fats in the diet can influence the risk of chronic disease.
