The post-comp volume DOMS are REAL 🔥🔥 I haven’t experienced DOMS like this in a very long time, but I know I’ll adapt after a few more sessions. I competed three times this year and plan on doing the same thing again next year, with 6 months off before my next competition. While I can’t yet say that I’m “excited” for some time away from heavy lifting, I know that focusing more on hypertrophy and refining movements patterns is exactly what I need at the moment in order to build a bigger total in 2020. Today’s session looked like this: 3x10 seated row 5x8 paused bench 3x8 pull ups 3x12 weighted push ups 3x12 lat pull down 3x12 DB flies 3x12 face pulls Aaaaaaaand I’m ruined. 😵💀

Incredible how a shitty day can turn around so quickly with a good workout, right 👏 Everyone needs an outlet. For me, it just so happens to be the gym (if you couldn’t tell by now 😝). Everyone needs that one thing they look forward to, makes them feel good, confident, and just freaking happy. Make sure you have that thing. You always need something to pull you out of that negative head space we get in sometimes. “I’ll feel good when I look good”. WRONG. . . This is the biggest lie that the fitness industry sells to you. It’s an empty promise. It fools you in to believing that being leaner/more jacked/more attractive will make you happier. This is not necessarily true & in many cases the pursuit of happiness via a physical aesthetic has the total opposite effect. Some of the most conventionally beautiful people I have ever met are disturbingly self-obsessed, insecure & often miserable. They place excessive value on their appearance often at the expense of their mental & physical health. Their bodies are amazing, but their bodies are also how they define themselves. This is not a fulfilling way to live. . . YOU LOOK GOOD WHEN YOU FEEL GOOD. . . When you feel good you’re partaking in activities & habits that nourish your body & your soul. When you feel good you’re not engaging in extreme behaviours or negative self-talk. When you feel good you smile more, you have more energy to give to others, you’re more present. You just fucking GLOW ✨ . . This year I have spent the least amount of time, energy & effort on training for aesthetics & I have never felt better in my life. I tracked calories for about 2 weeks over the course of 12 months, I have been eating without restriction, enjoying drinks with my friends most weekends, travelling, taking time out for myself, meditating & journaling every day and training in a way that my body loves. Subsequently I feel the most powerful, relaxed & secure in myself then every before. Not because I look the best I ever have (I don’t), but because I’ve been focusing on radical self-care & I FEEL AMAZING. . . This whole “I’ll be happy when”...”I’ll finally feel confident when”....”I’ll love my body when”...stuff is bullshit. Living in this space; putting off your happiness, confidence & worthiness for when you reach some undefined point in the future or an arbitrary number on the scale (otherwise known as the false promise of arrival) has👏🏼 got 👏🏼 to 👏🏼 stop. Yes, keep driving towards your goals but keep checking in with how you’re feeling in the process & be aware of when it starts to feel less like empowerment & more like torture💜

Oh woahhhh 🤩🙌🏽 Unser 150 calorie PB & J Twix Bars 🍯 Scroll for recipe from @betterbeingsteph 💃🏻👇🏼 - Ingredients: For the base: ▪️30g peanut butter ▪️20-30ml almond milk ▪️30g oat flour ▪️20g almond meal or chocolate pea protein ▪️15g @happywayau choc PB whey protein - For the PB&J filling: ▪️30g @happywayau choc PB whey protein ▪️50g peanut butter ▪️5-10ml almond milk as needed ▪️30g frozen raspberries. - For the coating: ▪️40g dark chocolate - Method: 1. For the base: Mix all ingredients together in a large mixing bowl until combined. 2. With your hands, mould the mixture until it forms a dough-like consistency. Press this dough into a lined loaf/brownie tin, and place in the freezer to set. 3. For the filling: Mix all ingredients together in a large mixing bowl until combined. The texture should be like a gooey caramel. Pour this mixture on top of your cooled base, place frozen raspberries on top and place back in the freezer to set for 2-4 hours. 4. For the coating: melt chocolate in the microwave or over a saucepan on boiling water. 5. Once your base and filling have set together, cut them into 8 thin, even sized pieces. Dip and coat in the melted chocolate, and place on baking paper 6. Place all pieces in the freezer to set for another 2 hours before serving.
