Since i found out I have issues with my erector spinae and trapezius, I’ve been incorporating yoga challenges to stretch out my back muscles more consciously. After many doctors, and frustration for not being able to find out why I was in so much pain I got a diagnosis. Now I’m in physical therapy & chiropractor. Your body speaks to you, don’t ignore signs that something is off. You shouldn’t live in pain or with meds to mask the pain. Get several opinions, ask questions. Yoga teacher training took me way out of my comfort zone today, but I was so lucky to have amazing support and encouragement to help me through. Today’s training was all about inversions including the half handstand-which I’ve tried unsuccessfully numerous times. But today, with Lainie’s guidance, Andy’s support (she literally had my back) and the encouragement of all my class mates, I finally got up the bloody wall! It meant so much that everyone was willing to support me and find a way to make it work - it’s amazing what you can achieve when people are willing to lift you up and help you achieve your best ❤️❤️❤️

Raja Yoga is the branch of Yoga focused on meditation. The ancient sages and yogis discovered specific practices designed to quiet the mind allowing the true Self to be witnessed. These teachings reveal that when we sense the true Self there is deep peace and well-being. The roots of Raja Yoga are the Eight Limbs of Yoga as described in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali written around 1500 years ago. See previous posts for more about the first Five Limbs of Yoga (Yamas, Niyamas, Asana, Pranayama, and Pratyahara) The Sixth Limb is Dharana or concentration. These upper limbs teach us ways to work with the mind to ready it for meditation. The mind is designed to produce thoughts and needs something on which to focus in order to settle. Anyone who has tried to meditate has experienced this. This limb encourages us to find an anchor on which to concentrate our attention. Anchors might include your breath, an object such as a candle, a mantra (something you repeat to yourself such as Om), a prayer, or visualizations. Fascia is a type of connective tissue that forms a continuous body-wide web inside of us, surrounding and connecting all of our muscles, bones, organs, nerves, and blood and lymph vessels. Releasing your fascia is like clearing out the cobwebs between the muscles, allowing them to slide and glide more efficiently, which increases hydration and eliminates toxins. Freeing up the muscles in this way allows them to begin to function independently, contracting and releasing to their fullest potential.
