Today I will post more on Hurricane versus Spitfire identification. Now generally the Hurricane is the stubbier bigger plane, the one of the left on the first photo. Here the difference is very stark. The Spitfire(right) has a very slender pencil shaped fuselage, in comparison to the Hurricane's bulkier fuselage. If we then shift focus on to the rear part of the fuselage, the hurricanes have a very prominent "drop" to the tail. The bottom of the rear fuselage is quite straight. On the other hand the Spitfire has its bottom rear fuselage almost "rise" up to meet the tail, but its top rear fuselage is quite uniform and straight. The tail itself also gives us vital clues. The vertical fin on the tail of the Hurricane(left) is fatter, coming out at a steeper angle. The Spitfire(right) is in possession of a smaller vertical tail fin which comes out much more smoothly. ▪︎▪︎▪︎ The second picture gives us more ways to identify. First is the Spitfire( forefront). Here it has its radiator housing under its right wing. Its the small box thing hanging under. Its also on the Hurricane(background) but its on the centre of the fuselage, hanging out. The third is the big one. Here the Spitfire(top) has very elliptical wings, whereas the Hurricane(bottom) has more rounded wings, which are not very elliptical. Although you can comment on canopies, early models often had rectangular canopies for both planes. Later on did the Spitfire gain the circular bubble canopy. #militaria

Oid Lee Wineland was an infantry officer in the United States Army in World War II from 1943-1945.  He was awarded the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster and the Purple Heart with two oak leaf clusters. From August 1944 until the end of the war, he served in Europe as a lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion, 121st Infantry ”Gray Bonnet” Regiment, of the 8th Infantry Division.  This unit faced some of the toughest infantry fighting of the war.  During Oid’s time with the 121st Infantry, 718 of its men were killed-in-action or died of wounds suffered in combat in France and Germany Source: https://www.google.com/amp/s/ochf.wordpress.com/2012/10/14/oid-lee-wineland-1996-inductee/amp/ #ww2 #worldwar2 #worldwartwo #livinghistory #reenacting #reenactment #history #militaryhistory #historia #historic #stories #veterans #veteran #remember #remembrance #infantry #infantryman #army #1945 #1944 #hurtgen #8thinfantry #8ID

#weiden #weideninderoberpfalz #bayern #bavaria #deutschland #germany #geschichte #history #zweiterweltkrieg #worldwar2 #secondworldwar #worldwar #wehrmacht #germanarmy #kaserne #barracks #militär #military #militaryhistory #infanterie #infantry #oberpfalz #krieg #war #instahistory #insta #instamilitary #instagood #instalikes #instagram

historicdogtags. George Tanner was born on 14 July, 1919 and lived in Dutchess, New Yor

George Tanner was born on 14 July, 1919 and lived in Dutchess, New York before the war. After Pearl Harbor was attacked, he enlisted in the US Army 4 days later. Tanner was assigned to the MP platoon of the 1st Infantry Division. In July 1943, Tanner landed in Sicily with the MP platoon as a replacement. Sgt. Tanner then landed at Omaha Beach on H-Hour on D-Day with the MP platoon alongside the 16th Infantry. They landed in the Easy Red Sector of Omaha Beach. He was wounded in action in the assault (likely when one of the MP platoons landing craft was struck by a shell during the landing), but still performed duty despite his wounds. For his actions he recieved the Silver Star Medal. He later served in the campaigns of Northern France and the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge). In January 1945, he recieved the Bronze Star Medal and was then transferred. On 4 June 1945 he was discharged from the Army and went home. . . . . . . #wwii #ww2 #military #omahabeach #dogtags #valor #dday #normandy #history #militaryhistory #artifact #artifacts #americanhistory #soldier #usarmy #worldwartwo #worldwar2 #ww2history
