IMPOSTER SYNDROME - When I was doing my Master’s degree and considering a career in academia, I often felt like an imposter. Like I didn’t know enough about anything or wasn’t a good enough writer. Lately I’ve been feeling similar with my yoga, I feel like I don’t know enough, I can’t do certain poses, I don’t have the right body type and I can’t afford matching alo yoga workout sets. This is making me feel a little unmotivated at the moment. BUT it is also making me feel determined to learn more and to attempt to change this idea that you have to look a certain way or dress a certain way to be a yogi. We are often harsh on ourselves but I want to try to be a bit nicer to myself and to tell myself that I do belong in the yoga world, because we truly all belong there no matter our body types, our skill level, or our outfits. - - #yoga #yogaeverydamnday #yogainspiration #myyogajourney #ybcyogis #belonging #selfdoubt

🌲Tree pose (vrksasana)🌲 with @yogadowin . . . This is one of the first standing balance poses a yogi/ni learns. It establishes many of the foundational engagements for later, more complicated, standing balance poses such as King Dancer (natarajasana) and Hand-to-Big-Toe (utthita hasta padangustasana). As such, Tree is always a great pose to continually refine, even for experienced yogi/nis! . ✨Benefits of Tree: 👍Stretch the thighs, groins, torso, and shoulders 👍Builds foot, ankle, and calf strength and stability 👍Tones abdominal muscles 👍Remedy for sciatica 👍Feel balanced, strong, and confidant . 💖How to LOVE tree: 1)Root down into floor through standing leg with a strong foot (see my foot tutorial), and draw strength up the inner seam of standing leg into core. Fire up the inner thigh of standing leg and standing leg glutes. Use glutes to keep standing leg hip “in” and hips level, don’t let it hip pop off to side. . 2) Firmly press foot against standing leg at ankle, calf, or inner thing (not against knee). Firm standing leg back into foot. This draws everything to mid-line and will give you bullet-proof balance.  Imagine you are holding a piece of paper between foot and leg and  that someone is trying to pull the piece of paper out. Keep a strong hold on the piece of paper and resist the imaginary person who is trying to pull it out. . 3) Press hands firmly against each other at mid-line, broaden across collar bones, and relax shoulders back. Wrap shoulder blades down the back of heart. Extend spine up through crown of head. . 4) Open lifted knee fully to the side keep hips level. . 5) Finally, and as always keep ribs pulled in and your mid-back strong, no mid-back sway or rib thrusting! Frequently people lift their chest and sway the mid-back in the pose. Keep bottom crests of rib cage (floating ribs) moving down towards belly button and in towards spine. Also, breath into the back of lungs to create fullness in the mid-back and better balance. . If you are rocking tree, everything pressing into midline, and ribs in, throw in some arm variations like “cactus arms”, dynamic twisting of the torso, a backbend with arms extended, etc etc. just ex

Even the weather can’t decide what it wants to wear today. An early morning run got me thinking: In #ryt200 we were asked how we meditate. Is this meditation? It has to be. Carefully choosing the right clothes for the temperature (26 degrees, Fahrenheit, ew), planning your route, selecting a playlist, tuning into your breath, being mindful of each step that hits pavement, keeping pace.
