Kota Ezawa (German Japanese American, b. 1969), a San Francisco based artist and professor at California College of the Arts, is one of two Bay Area-based artists included in this year's Whitney Biennial! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Whitney Biennial 2019 takes the pulse of American art today and Kota contributes "National Anthem," a video animation depicting N.F.L. players taking a pregame knee to protest police violence against African-American men and women. With repurposed footage of multiple teams, Ezawa created small-scale watercolor paintings that have become the frames of the animation. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Kota states "These are key moments to the events. Korah is a community of people located near the local trash dump. In fact, many families living in Korah depend on the trash to make a living or find food.
