WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME A CONVERSATION CHANGED YOUR PERSPECTIVE? Today I had a long talk with my buddy Dave. He’s a mentor of mine and I only talk to him at certain moments of my life where I need to talk to him. He was talking to me about “powerlessness”. What it means to be powerless and how life can give you that sense of feeling like nothing can work for you. He was saying how when you’re powerless you want power but the wrong kind of power. The kind of power you want in pain is the power that will make you have power over the people places and things that you think have taken your power. He went in to say that the true power you want is one that comes from what you truly believe in. Maybe that’s spiritual, maybe that’s your morals but how you know if that power only has to do with your path and not the path you want to be on or think you should be on. He said, “the thing is that everything in life is always OK even when you think it’s not. If you can accept that then you can find that power you believe in. The power that comes from your inner peace. Inner peace never asks for the world to work in your favor. It only needs you to be where you are right now.” So how does this relate to this picture? Well we were shooting in New Orleans. We were worn out and actually sick, totally exhausted. I just wanted to get to the car can go to the hotel. Myself and the other photographer came across this street with people sleeping, probably passed out on heroin. We kept looking at this lady’s feet and wondering how they were so clean. My feet were more dirty just from shooting all day in New Orleans. It was that moment or a series of moments when you capture that beautiful haunting moment. That one where you see yourself in it, you know it. You’ve lived it. Only a peaceful reality comes to you and you wonder...’will anyone feel what I have felt in taking this image’? Ooo I love street photography. Some days I wish I didn’t live in rural New Hampshire so I can get more shots like this. Great two day workshop in New York with @alan_schaller learning the ins and outs of black and white street photography. | . . . . . . #blackandwhite #blackandwhitephotography #bnw #street #streetphotography #streetstyle #people #street_ig #street_is_life #streetizm #streetlife #bnw_arts #bnw_legit #bnwphotography
